Find Cause of Blue Screen of Death

I know all of you have seen the Blue Screen of Death. We all hate it and most all of us have no clue what it means. Ask anyone and they will tell you is due to some new hardware or software. What if you have not installed any new hardware or software and you get the Blue Screen of Death just out of the blue? What do we make of all the errors it gives us? You can try googling the error codes but they don't usually help.

In this article I will tell you my own experience with some recent BSDs and how I found out what they were cause by. (Tech people who don't want to read what happen and just want to know how to do this scroll down) Well some BSDs will tell you what cuased the problem. But not in my case, every 2-5 hours I would get the same one:

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

and some error codes at the bottom. But as some of you may have noticed with all BSDs they all say at the bottom

Beginning memory dump...
Memory dump file complete

What is this memory dump? The memory dump is a file the computer creates that gives more details on the problem. They are the key! So how do we use them? We don't work for Microsoft! Well you don't have to! Here is what I did and what I always do after I get a BSD.

Step1: Check system events(Start->right click "My computer" and click on "Manage"->Events and Logs->System) I always look into what my computer was doing right before it crashed...in my case I saw that 1 min before it crashed each time(it crashed 5 times now) it would update the clock.

Step2: Check to see if this service is needed(in my case well yeah my clock needs to be updated)

Step3: I wish I had more info on these crashes...ask myself how do I open these dump files?

Step4: I found windows debugger program that can read .dmp files (dump files) Download program.

Step5: open dump file and find that problem is cuased by "systemtimeset-k"

Tech people to do this do these steps....

Step 1: Download & install Windows Debugger found here- Install Debugging Tools for Windows 32-bit Version

Step 2: Open the debugger and go to File->Symbol File Path

Step 3: Enter the file path
Code:
_NT_SYMBOL_PATH=srv*c:\mysymbols*http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols;cache*c:\mysymbols
[IMG]file:///C:/DOCUME%7E1/USERNAME/LOCALS%7E1/Temp/moz-screenshot.jpg[/IMG][IMG]file:///C:/DOCUME%7E1/USERNAME/LOCALS%7E1/Temp/moz-screenshot-1.jpg[/IMG]

Step 4: Go to File->Open Crash Dump

Dump files are located at
Code:
C:\Windows\Minidump
Open the most recent one

Step 5: Let it load and scroll down to find your problem

If your a computer person you might want to click the !analyze -v link. But if your not just google the win32k.sys and you'll find it what it is(I found it to just be a random error but who knows maybe "TimersProc" means the computer was updating the clock?

Well I hope this helps alot of you and if you have any questions feel free to ask and if you need some help with a dump file I can look at it for you just send me a message.

Website Update

I'v made alot of updates to the website. I've added at least 4 new helpful articles. I've also added 2 new RSS feeds. One for Xbox games, and the other is for Xbox Live. I've also been trying to keep up with the other feeds. I've gotten rid of alot of tech news that just wasnt being viewed, so it needed to go. I've also made a new tutorial for my graphics website, one that teaches you how to put in a youtube/flash video into a premade template. I've also added many more things. Right now I'm a lil tired, I always seem to do blogs right before I go to bed. I dont know why. I havnt been working on techcountry alot, I've been addicted to cod4 alot. 22 days 20 hours worth of online playing time.

I'll talk to yall later but my eyes cant stay open any longer so good nigh.

Internet Problem

Well so far I'm still sick. I'm feeling little bit better. I have a free day today but out of the middle of no where my wireless modem lost or cant find the DSL single. I am able to connect to the modem but the DSL light blinks green then blinks red. I dont know what happen, I was just surfing the net and bam. Every time I try to go to a page a get this At&t Gateway problem. I says try rebooting the system which I have done from the computer many times and I've also gone to do it manually. I checked to make sure everything was set up right, even though it was working for the 1st half of the day and no one went near it. But still I unplugged the phone line and the power for 30 sec. I did this about 3 times with no luck. I really don't want to call my ISP because every time I do, they always tell me to do everything I've already done, and what I hate the most is when they do this it works! They must send some kind of message or something because they always tell me to do what I've already done, but it only works when they tell me to do it. Plus if that doesn't work then they will just send some moron over to tell me they cant find the problem. So now I'm stuck with a unstable linksys network. It works then doesn't work. I wonder if this post we even make it. Once again I'm posting when I'm half asleep but I did do I new How To for XP. It will help your CPU and RAM performance. It can be found here
http://www.techcountry.net/forums/showthread.php?t=235
It teaches how disabling XPs' built in Indexing Service.

Sick

Man I'm sick. It sucks, I feel so tired and stuffed up. I've been trying to work on the site but I also have to attend to GFXNation.com . My activity on GN has gown down so I started posting more. As far as TC goes I have 2 hacks to look forward too. I have the site map and the experiance hack. I've been thinking about vbSEO but its way to much money, the price is out there. I'm still getting spam, and still no Alexa image. Ohwell that all for today, I need to go to bed.

Alexa rank

Well finally I got my site ranked on Alexa. It took about 2 weeks to get it to happen. It doesn't have a thumb nail yet but I hope to get that in maybe a week. But I still don't have a Google rank. I still am waiting to get a updated site map. I am getting alot a bot hits. It a lil weird because I have 800+hits on a unknown bot. I've already got my first spam post for some dam adult links. The sites only up for about 3 weeks now and I already have spam lol. But I have a lot of work ahead of me so I'll keep you up to date. By the way if any of you are wondering when I'll be posting more computer and game related info, well I will do so when the site jumps off.
